Surf Expo 2021 Plans In-Person Show in Orlando

Will Surf Expo 2021 in Orlando be the catalyst for a return of trade shows in the Sunshine State?

That's what event organizers, the host Orange County Convention Center and others will wonder about as the calendar ticks closer to the show's Jan. 6-8 run at the massive convention complex. The show will move into the West Concourse of the center, which will offer wider aisles, social distancing and multiple entry/exit points. Surf Expo has more than 400 exhibitors scheduled to attend.

“Our top priority is to reunite the industry together safely. Our team is committed to creating an experience where we can safely and effectively conduct business,” Roy Turner, Surf Expo Show Director and SVP, said in a  statement. “While attendance is expected to decrease somewhat due to travel restrictions and store closures, the overwhelming response from retailers is that they need inventory, and want an in-person show.”

“Our focus will be to conduct the show with safety at the forefront," he added. "A comprehensive preparedness, prevention and response plan is in place, based on guidance issued by the by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and federal, state, and local governments. This plan is our commitment to providing assurance and confidence that our events have health and safety as our number one priority."

The show will attract retailers from the United States, Caribbean and Canada. Scheduled events include a board-shaping competition, seminars and more.

“I am looking forward to attending Surf Expo to see vendors in person and to be able to touch and feel product," said Allyson Catanzaro a buyer with La Playa Beach and Golf Resort in Naples, Florida. "Zoom calls have worked, but it doesn’t replace the in-person contact."
