Editor Alan Clemons and Senior Editor Dave Maas have decades of experience on the water and writing about fishing and the outdoors.

Introducing the Editors of Bait & Tackle Business

By now you’ve probably seen the inaugural print issue of Bait & Tackle Business (Jan./Feb. 2020). The magazine and this website will be a source of critical information for fishing industry retailers, covering bait, tackle and equipment in the sportfishing market comprehensively and without boundaries.

We have a veteran crew here at Bait & Tackle Business. Our staff has decades of experience on the water and writing about fishing and the outdoors. In the future you’ll learn more about the two editors leading the BTB team, but here’s a quick introduction.

From BTB Editor Alan Clemons:

“Thanks to my father taking me at a young age, for about 45 years I’ve loved fishing for everything from bream and catfish to redfish and bass, from Alabama to New York and California to Florida. Ponds, lakes, rivers, the Gulf of Mexico, a roadside ditch . . . it doesn’t matter to me. If it swims and has fins, I like to try to figure out how catch it. I’m the guy in our neighborhood standing in the rain in summer and dragging a jig in winter. I’m a native and resident of Alabama and have been in the communications business since 1984.”

From BTB Senior Editor Dave Maas:

“Like my co-worker Alan Clemons, I also grew up with a love of fishing and the outdoors. I was head instructor for four years at In-Fisherman’s Camp Fish (owned by Al and Ron Lindner) in northern Minnesota, and also spent summers guiding anglers in southern Ontario and western Alaska. When I wasn’t guiding, I worked the retail floor and taught rod building at a fishing specialty store in my home state of Minnesota. I’m father of two avid anglers (ages 15 and 17), and as a family we pursue everything from crappies and catfish to smallies and muskies. I’ve been in the communications business for 25 years and, like Alan, also enjoy hunting.”

You may recognize the names of some of our contributors, all of whom have been involved with covering the fishing and outdoors industry for many years. Kurt Beckstrom, Michael D. Faw, Gary Garth, Keith Jackson, John Neporadny Jr., Mike Pehanich and Pete Robbins are among the best in the business. They bring knowledge, experience and professionalism in spades, along with a passion for fishing and creating good stories. We’ll be bringing others on board, too.

We’ve been around the block a few times. We’re going to look for solid, compelling, interesting and fun stories, which will be in print and also online at www.baitandtacklebiz.com.

If you have a story idea or suggestion, let us know about it. When we mess up — and we will, because we’re not perfect — let us know that, too. You can reach both Alan Clemons and Dave Maas via email at  editor@baitandtacklebiz.com.
