Sales Tip: Display Your Staff’s Top Lure Picks

Customers like to know which lures are preferred by your experienced sales staff. One great way to provide this insight is with an end cap filled with top lure picks.

Sales Tip: Display Your Staff’s Top Lure Picks

Remember when everyone used to visit the local video store to rent movies? From large chains such as Blockbuster Video to small independent retailers, the one constant in the video stores I visited was an area set aside for the staff’s top picks. Typically showcased on an end cap, these favorites were highlighted next to the staff person’s name (and sometimes a short bio and pic). It was a great way to provide viewing ideas for customers who didn’t walk in the door knowing which movie they wanted to rent.

This top picks idea works well in a tackle shop, too. Simply ask your sales staff, as well as other employees, which lures are their favorites for various species. In addition, if someone on your team has particular expertise on a body of water that’s a popular vacation destination, then highlight these lake-specific lures, too.

Adding high-quality fishing pics of your staff next to their top lure picks is a great way to showcase not only the baits themselves, but also your team’s expertise.

At minimum, change the top lure picks display seasonally so it’s timely. Better yet, ask your sales staff to look at their lure selections weekly to see if anything needs to be changed based on what they’ve experienced recently on the water.

The favorite lures end cap will become a regular stopping point for your best customers. It will also help provide purchasing ideas to anyone in your store during times when your sales staff can’t visit at length with each person because of heavy traffic.

You’ll be surprised at how quickly lures will disappear off the top picks end cap. If you currently don’t have one in your store, then get it started today.
