If you have fishing rods with cork handles on display that need cleaning, then reach for the baby wipes.

Fishing Rod Care: How to Clean Cork Handles

It’s simply a fact of retail that some products will move faster than others, and while many items don’t change in appearance over time, others will show their age. In particular, fishing rods with cork handles will begin to look a bit dirty if customers have handled the rods over and over and over again.

Even if a cork-handled fishing rod hasn’t been on the shelf for long, there’s a chance a customer stopped by your store to check out a new rod, and he or she came from a job or hobby that caused them to have dirty hands. Whatever the case, there’s a simple and inexpensive way to bring new life to cork-handled fishing rods.

Baby wipes can be used for cleaning a lot more than babies, and in particular the wet towelettes work very well for removing stains on cork handles. Simply take a baby wipe and begin rubbing it gently over the cork handle. You don’t have to rub aggressively; let the baby wipe work its magic. Use different parts of the towelette to remove grime until the entire cork handle looks as good as new.

A baby wipe also works well over the entire rod blank to remove dust and restore it to new condition. As a final step, use a clean rag to dry the cork, reel seat and rod blank.
